Freer Freedom Begins Here
A live, 9-week conversation to help you see anew the God you thought you knew.
Faithfulness = Faithlessness
Freedom is a means, not an end. If freedom is your goal, faithfulness is how you get there. Except you never get there.
And so you never live by faith. Faithfulness as a means to an end is faithlessness!
The real secret to a life of faithfulness isn’t discovered through better discipline, but in questioning whose expectations we’re exhausted by. That is where we finally think: “what if I’ve been living in good faith to the wrong God?”
And that is why this live course is about exploring how the idea of faithfulness keeps us from God’s idea of freedom.
“LARK helped me discover God as a Father without expectations and the Church as friends without ‘next steps.’”
Annette (Chicago)
How To Live By Faith
Jesus told a lot of stories that unravel our perception of faith. One goes like this:
Two guys walk into a temple to pray - a religious leader and a nefarious criminal. The religionist thanks God he’s not like the criminal and reminds God how disciplined he has been.
But, the no-good tax collector stood far off staring at his feet, saying “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!”
Then came a moment of tension you could cut with a knife. Jesus told a crowd of self-justification junkies, “only the criminal went home justified that day.” With no promise or plan for reform, Jesus pronounces the empty-handed to be the safest among us.
We usually think those holding up the best spiritual resume are faithful. But, Jesus flips the script by siding with the guy who had the faith to hold up no resume of his own.
This is the life Larks are learning to live.
Like AA, But For Religion
The last thing anyone needs is another Christian anything offering the good life.
What many of us were handed in the name of “church” never led to living free anyway. The truth is, sermons and studies can teach you what the Bible says, but they cannot teach you how to live free.
We learn to live free in conversations about the God who scandalously declares we are free because of his faithfulness to us, not our imagined faithfulness to him.
It’s in these conversations about what God is really like that everyone is free to be who they really are. With no need for anyone to be anything in themselves, everyone is free to share without fear or fault-finding.
This is where healing is found and a better story spreads.
