6: CHURCH
Wait, Jesus said we are what?
Reflection Questions:
• The New Testament describes the Church as a "holy temple" made of "living stones." What did you learn about the temple from Reclaim 6? How have you personally seen the temple’s impact in your experience?
• In your mind, what changes when you shift from thinking of "church" as a series of behaviors to the collective identity we share in Jesus?
• In what ways have you seen churches widen the gap between itself and the world? In what ways have you seen churches narrow it?
• What truths, in Reclaim 6, have been helpful to you as you imagine extending the freedom of Jesus to your neighbors?
Key Passages:
• Formerly strangers, the Church is now a reconciled family [Eph. 2:11-22]
• The Church is a mobile temple of everyday priests scattered throughout the world, who love well and carry the Good News of Jesus’ finished work to all people in all places [1 Pet. 2:4-5 + Eph. 2:21 ]
• The Church transcends commonalities found in gender, race, social status, or cause and makes brothers and sisters out of natural enemies [Gal. 3:26-28]
• The function of our life together as the Church is lived out through the “one another” statements [See "one another" scriptures on pages 96-97 of Reclaim]
